Sleep beneath a star-filled sky in the Thar Desert, ride a camel into the sunset and witness the deeply moving Ganga Aarti ceremony in Varanasi. Itinerary

16 days, day by day

Day 1

Arrival in Delhi

Welcome at the airport, transfer to your hotel and overnight in India's capital.

Day 2

Old & New Delhi

The Red Fort, Jama Masjid mosque, Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, the Lotus Temple and India Gate.

Day 3

Delhi → Mandawa

Drive to Mandawa, famed for the richly frescoed havelis of the Silk Road merchants of old.

Day 4

Mandawa → Bikaner

Karni Mata Temple (the Temple of Rats), the Jain temple of Bhandasar and the mighty Junagarh Fort.

Day 5

Bikaner → Jaisalmer

Journey to the "Golden City" on the edge of the Thar Desert.

Day 6

Jaisalmer and a night in the Thar Desert

Jaisalmer Fort (UNESCO), Gadisar Lake and the havelis, followed by an evening camel safari, folk performances and a night at a camp on the Sam dunes.

Day 7

Jaisalmer → Jodhpur

The blue "Sun City" with the imposing Mehrangarh Fort and an evening visit to the local bazaars.

Day 8

Jodhpur → Pushkar

Drive to Pushkar and a stroll through its vibrant market brimming with Rajasthani handicrafts.

Day 9

Pushkar → Jaipur

The holy Pushkar Lake, the Brahma Temple and the Savitri Temple, then onwards to Jaipur.

Day 10

Jaipur → Agra

Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, Jal Mahal, the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar observatory, with an evening drive to Agra.

Day 11

Agra: the Taj Mahal and the overnight train to Varanasi

The Taj Mahal at sunrise, Agra Fort and the Itmad-ud-Daulah mausoleum, followed by an overnight sleeper train to Varanasi.

Day 12

Varanasi and the Ganga Aarti ceremony

A rickshaw ride through the Old City, temples and ghats, and in the evening the deeply moving Ganga Aarti ceremony on the Ganges.

Day 13

Varanasi → Sarnath → flight to Delhi

A dawn boat ride on the Ganges, a visit to Buddhist Sarnath, and an evening flight back to Delhi.

Day 14

Delhi

An afternoon tour of the Old City, rounded off with dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 15

Delhi — free day

A day to rest, shop or explore the city at your own pace.

Day 16

Departure

Transfer to the airport and the end of your journey.

What you never have to worry about

The price does not include: international flights, Indian visa and insurance, entrance fees (approx. €120 per person), meals outside the programme, drinks and tips. A €200 seasonal supplement applies to departures between 20 December and 5 January. The order of sightseeing may change for logistical or weather reasons.
